Tips and tricks for making money selling porn with blogs and websites

Make Money Market Porn - ways to assess your sex blog or site

I found a very interesting tool today. It’s called the Website Grader and is one of many similar tools on the internet the porn marketer can use to assess how readable their site or blog is, both in terms of surfers and search engines. It is usually the case that the more accessable your site is, the more money you can make from it in the long term, so I gave this tool a trial run on Make Money Market Porn.

This particular marketing blog hasn’t been added to the search engines (or anywhere else much) yet. I want to get quite a few fresh posts on here and try to adjust the archives (which have duplicate [but very useful] content from my original porn webmaster’s blog) before I do so. Therefore, I was not surprised at the findings. They were, however, quite reassuring in other ways which show that this blog is on the right track if I choose to use it to market and to make money from.

This is how the Website Grader can help you:

First of all, it tells you how ‘SEO friendly’ your website is. For example, it told me I had missed a couple of important meta tags, which I have now added. It checked my description against the meta tags and marked this as correct. It also checked my last few headings against the meta tags and description of my blog and these came out correct too.

I was also told that I have too many images on one page (which may make the site slow to load), but as Make Money Market Porn is mainly text, I must assume this applies to the banners I have in the side bar! Nevertheless, this is an important consideration and anyone who wants to make money from a blog or site needs to ask themselves how long their site will take to load. In the case of porn sites, many surfers will move on somewhere else if a site doesn’t open for them within a minute (some may only give it 10 seconds - they are in a hurry!). As someone whose internet connection speed isn’t great (but as fast as we can get it), I use this to my advantage. If a site will not load in a reasonable time for me, then I know it will not load any quicker for many of my surfers and I try to apply this as a general rule when marketing porn.

The grader also checked my images for alt text (something I am often remiss about and definitely shouldn’t be) and told me I need to add this in some cases. I’ll do that after I finish this post :)

The grader checked the Readability Level of Make Money Market Porn, and found it to be Secondary/High School Level. Basically, this test measures the approximate level of education someone needs to have to read your site. Although some may say that a blog aiming at secondary/high school level will not be particularly informative, nothing could be further from the case when you market porn, or most other online products.

When you want to make money online you have to consider your audience. Is the university professor wanting to buy the porn you are advertising? Well, he may be, but he most likely will not have found your porn marketing blog in the first place and if he has, he will want a site which gives him what he wants - access to porn. He won’t be in the mood to care about your prose. In fact, most of your readers will be looking for free porn pictures and video clips, plus information on how to get more. They want sex, not highbrow text. Whatever your level of education (or your surfer’s), a porn blog or site is not the place to demonstrate this. Use the KISS factor - keep it simple stupid.

The Website Grader will give you many ‘off-page SEO’ details also:

It will give you information on your domain. In the case of Make Money Market Porn, it shows that this site is still very new (most often not great for page rank), but is registered for more than one year. This is another aspect to consider when you market porn. The jury is still out on this one, but many say that a site registered for one year only is often considered a ’spam’ site, where the owner is not committed to using the domain for long term use. There are some reasons other than this for registering a domain for a short time only, but this would take another post. In any case, if you want to make money from your blogs and sites, I reckon you will probably be wanting to keep them for longer than one year, so registering for longer would make very good sense here.

The grader also gives information on the Google Page Rank of a site. Also Google indexed pages and ‘last crawl date‘, and traffic rank with Alexa. It also tells you whether the site is listed in the Yahoo Directory, DMOZ, and ZoomInfo Business directories. Make Money Market Porn does not score on any of these, which actually pleases me right now, as I do want to add a couple more posts about how to sell porn online and sort out that ‘extra’ content in the older pages before I submit it to the search engines and anywhere else I think it will do well (after checking the TOS of these sites of course).

The Website Grader also checks your Inbound Links. This blog has 17 at the current time. This is obviously not good enough to get a good page rank, or for helping surfers to find my blog in the first place and is something I will work on when I feel this blog is ready to compete in the money making market. Theories on the source of those inbound links differ (as they do for the effectiveness of page rank when it comes to actually making money by selling membership to online sex sites), but inbound links (even if they are made from some of your more established blogs or sites) are very important when you compete in the porn market.

This tool offers other forms of website analysis, such as your Technorati ranking. Make Money Market Porn is listed here, which surprised me as I haven’t ‘claimed’ it yet :) It also shows if the blog has any records at Digg and del.icio.us, a couple of the ‘social bookmarking‘ sites I had considered when I wrote my previous entry Does Being Sociable Make You Money When You Market Porn. It also checks to see if your RSS Feed is set up correctly, which is important in making your feed accessible to your readers.

There are several other assessments you can do with this grader, including checking your main keywords to see how often they are searched and to look at other websites who are competing for these terms. From a look at my keyword scores, Make Money Market Porn would be better trying to compete in the ‘market’ keyword field, rather than for ‘porn’ or ‘make money’ which are two very hard keywords to get to the top in the search engines with on their own. However, I am more hopeful about this, as ‘make money’ may be a huge niche, as is ‘porn’, but the 4 words together are rather different and, I feel, cut down search factors quite substantially. But we will see over the coming months :)

Overall, I found the Website Grader a useful tool. It provides other results I haven’t discussed here, plus several useful links to help you in your efforts as an net entrepreneur. As I said at the beginning of this post, there are other similar free tools you can use to help you market porn effectively and some of the suggestions made are open to question when it somes to selling memberships to sex sites. Overall, I found the Website Grader very helpful and will check my other sites against it over the coming weeks.

Free tools like this are very useful for anyone who wants to make money online, and when you market porn, it is great to have all the help you can get, so I hope this one helps you too :)
