Make Money Market Porn For Newbies - Part 4: Paid Hosting
In my previous post I talked about how to use free hosting (particularly free hosted blogs) to make money selling porn online. However, I realise that many people prefer the security of using paid hosting to market porn right from the start, so here we go
Paid Hosting:
Firstly, the same rules apply when hosting sponsor porn videos and pictures on paid hosting as they do with free hosting. Always make sure that the host you choose will allow you to post porn on their servers, as many do not. Look at the opening page, see if you like the host’s offers, and then, before you get out your credit card, CHECK OUT THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Any hosting service which says ‘no pornography’ is obviously a no no, but some are not as clear. For instance, does ‘obscene’ mean porn or something much worse? Does a host who allows ‘adult content’ have any rules which state how explicit that adult content can be?
If you have read the terms and conditions in full and are still not sure, either move on to a host which does accept porn (without a doubt), or, if you really want to use this hosting service, contact them.
Contacting a hosting service by using their contact form will also give you an idea of how good their customer service will be if you do sign up with them. Admittedly, the response to contact from established customers will probably be quicker than the response given to a prospective customer, but any serious and professional hosting company will get back to you as soon as they can, because they know it is in their interest to do so.
Another way to check out details about a hosting company is in their forums. These may also give you some input on how effective the service is. Major companies like Hostgator , Dreamhost and Servage have forums where customers and prospective customers can ask questions and receive answers from the hosting team and other customers. If you search and browse, you may well find the answer to your question. You will also find out what other customers think of the service they are getting and whether their questions and problems have been resolved efficiently.
One thing I must say about the use of forums for checking out anything, whether for when you want to market porn, or make money online in general. Never forget that many people post to forums because they have a complaint and want to let everyone know about it. Sometimes these complaints are legitimate, sometimes they are not. You will also find opposing services posting complaints in order to make the supplier of the forum look bad and to promote their own opposing products instead. Always read these posts with a suspicious mind. They may be genuine, they may not. Reserving your judgement until you have undertaken further research and have further experience is a very good maxim when you market porn and when you try to make money out of any project.
So how do you get any more clues as to whether or not a host will allow you to market porn on their servers? Look in adult webmaster forums. You can either do a search for ‘paid hosting’ and see what threads this brings up; or post your own question about hosting and wait for all the webmasters to post you their affiliate links and information about the host they are promoting; or simply browse different posts and check out the links in the members’ signatures for yourself. No serious adult webmaster is going to offer you an affiliate link for a host who does not allow porn as it is not in their interest to do so. By clicking through their link and signing up with a hosting company you will provide the webmaster with a referral bonus, so they want you to sign up without hassle.
If you make it known to the person whose link you are using that you have signed up with the hosting company recommended by them, they will often help you or offer advice if you have any problems signing up, so it’s worth telling the webmaster that you have used their signature. It is also worth it to make your intentions known on a forum, just in case, despite all the odds, the person whose signature you have clicked through was not pushing a good deal. This gives other webmasters the opportunity to warn you off, with reasons why. Again, read and digest before you make your final decision. This is going to be your way to make money. You don’t want to lose out at the word go.
As I said in my last post, in the archives here you will see that I was ripped off by a hosting company even though I thought I had done my homework well. The one thing I hadn’t done was to check the company out with other Adult Webmasters. If I had done so, I could perhaps have saved myself quite a few wasted dollars.
So what hosting do I use? I use Hostgator. I am also an affiliate for Hostgator, as you will see by the links in this post and the banner on the right. So straight away you must realise that it is in my interest to promote their web hosting services to you. Having said that, I have only very recently become an affiliate for them, as I wanted to check them out for myself first. I do not like to recommend any service, whether porn, hosting, or any other product I make money from, without being as sure as I can be that the service is a good one. It is not worth my while (or the hassle involved if I made the wrong decision) to do otherwise.
So why do I use Hostgator to market porn online?
I use Hostgator because they have cPanel as well as ftp, which makes it easy for me to upload files directly to the admin panel and to see the process in action (I am someone who uses ftp when I have to, but who hates the idea of sending files into ‘hyper space’ and wondering if they are going to get there - strange, I know
); I use them because they have ‘Fantastico’ which makes it as easy as a ‘one click install’ for blogging platforms Wordpress, Nucleus and b2evolution, plus content management systmes like Drupal, Joomla, Mambo and many others. Fantastico also enables the ‘one click install’ of forum software and a host of other tools I haven’t even begun to use yet. And best of all, in my opinion, is that Fantastico enables you to upgrade your Wordpress blogs with one click and saves a backup just in case anything goes wrong and that’s gives me a lot of peace of mind. The fact that I get all these goodies with my Hostgator account is still a source of amazement to me and even now, I often have a ‘play’ with installing different software, just to see how it works (and uninstalling it again if I don’t find it useful).
For someone who came into this business with the hope that I would be able to market porn despite having only a very basic knowledge of html, a love hate relationship with css, and a complete lack of understanding about php and other strange terms, using Hostgator to host my porn blogs and sites and market them effectively has been a blessing. As to customer support, I have found them excellent. In fact, when I had an installation problem recently (one I couldn’t do via Fantastico) they went out of their way to help me get things right.
And most importantly, for someone who wants to make money when they market porn, Hostgator allows you to host porn blogs and sites as long as they are legal (you adhere to 18 U.S.C. ยง2257 rules on acceptable content) and you are not a spammer (plus other rules you of course need to check out in their TOS).
The only problem I had with Hostgator was in the initial sign up. As I live in Europe and Hostgator is an American company, I had to reaffirm my intentions to sign up with them by phone (something which happens to many Europeans and those of some other nations), but they were helpfulness itself in getting this done (despite my moans about being discriminated against because I am not an American - I have frequent moans about this by the way…) and by the end of the day my first blog was up and running.
I have a ‘Swamp Croc’ account with Hostgator, because I not only have many many blogs and sites on their servers, but I use a fair bit of bandwidth, plus I have other webmaster tools with take up a great deal of storage space also. However, for someone just starting to market porn, the ‘Baby Croc’ option advertised in the side panel should be more than sufficient to run a host of sites and blogs and to host all your porn images and banners too. I will probably soon go over the Hostgator’s ‘reseller hosting plan’, as I have other expansion in mind, but for now I am more than happy with the account I have with them.
I can honestly say I highly recommend Hostgator as a great solution for anyone who wants to market porn and make money online. There are other hosting companies who allow you to host porn on their servers. Servage and Dreamhost are two of the names you will find on the webmaster boards, along with several others all highly recommended by their promoters. Some forum members say good things about them, some bad. As always, it is up to you to do thorough research before you sign up with any hosting company, however highly others recommend them.
And remember that the most important rule is ALWAYS READ THE TOS and check and double check before getting out your credit card and signing up.
The idea is to make money as you market porn and this money is for you. It is your wage for a being a professional on the web. So be professional right from the start and do your homework on everything.
You now it makes sense ![]()
