Make Money Market Porn For Newbies - Part 3: Free Hosting
So now we are clear on what you need to do and what you must never do when you try to make money as you market porn, let’s look at what you will need to do this effectively. Two things should spring to mind - Hosting and Sponsors. Without either of these you are on a non-starter
Let’s begin with Hosting.
The vast majority of porn sponsors will not sign you up as an affilliate unless you can show them a website url assigned to you. Some will want to see a website and an email address which is not on a free email service (Yahoo and MSN/Hotmail are usually frowned upon the most. In my experience, a Gmail account is okay for most sponsors, but I may have been lucky when I started out ), so you need to think about this too (perhaps your Internet service provider has an email you can use?). All sponsors (as is the case when you want to make money online with mainstream also) will want you to give an address so that they can send you your payment cheques. Many sponsors will check the url against your address/email address to see whether or not you are genuine (and not a spammer), so you have to use a url which you signed up for using the same email address as the one you are putting on your sponsor application form.
So how do you get that url when you are just starting out in the porn marketing business?
If you are new to selling porn online and especially if you are new to making money online as a whole, I would suggest you begin with free hosting. As you will see from my previous posts linked to here, free hosting isn’t perfect. Nevertheless, it’s a very good place to begin and learn the ropes.
Many ‘make money online enterpreneurs’ will tell you that “you have to speculate to accumulate” and to some extent I agree with them. With ‘free’ anything, you get what you pay for - little security for a start, plus you will lose a proportion of your revenue because some of your surfers will click on your host’s affilate links rather than yours. However, what many adult webmasters will also tell you is “never invest in anything in order to market porn until you have made the money to do so”. This is very sound advice. Newbies trying to sell porn on the net have to keep their wits about them to remain on top of their game. In any online marketing venture it is easy to get shafted. With promoting porn this risk is even higher, owing to the limitations placed upon you because of the content you promote.
If you scour the archives on this blog, you will find a post which I am too embarassed to link to here. It is about how I got ripped off when trying to purchase cheap hosting. I researched hosting companies as thoroughly as (I thought) I could, but my search was limited by fact that (a) at that time I had very little spare cash and (b) when you market porn online, many hosting companies will refuse your application (or close down your sites once they find out that you are hosting porn on their servers).
So, I will repeat the above advice with extras. Start out using free hosting if you possible can (and this applies to image hosting too). Learn as many tricks of the trade as you can using free hosting. Make money using free hosting (you will be able to do this well if you study, learn and work hard). When you are earning a reasonable income from using free hosting to market porn and you have some money to spare, then go and purchase yourself some paid hosting. By that time you will deserve it!
A proviso here. As I said in the previous post, only use free hosts who allow you to market porn. This applies also to free image hosts. Sponsors will let you link to their free hosted galleries for your posts. Some will provide you with a small thumbnail you can link to to provide an image on your post. Many will not. The same applies to sponsor banners, which you will want to use (with moderation, I hope) in the sidebars and top and bottom bars on your site or blog. The majority of sponsors expect you to host these images yourself. Do not hotlink them. When the sponsor finds out you will have your account terminated with no payment of outstanding earnings.
So where do you go to host your porn images?
The majority of free image hosts will not allow you to host any images considered to be of a sexual nature on their sites. Most will also not allow you to use their serices for commercial activities in any case. If, for instance, you post some porn (or even simply erotic nude) pictures to Photobucket, one day you will look at your site or blog and find that those images have been replaced with a notice from Photobucket saying that the image has been deleted. This isn’t good for business. How can you expect your surfers to trust you (and trust is vital when you market porn) when they see that you haven’t even looked into the terms of service of your image host? There are a few free image hosts on the net who will allow you to post and hotlink your porn images, but many of these close down without notice. Again, this is not the best solution.
There is a way to manage all this however, using free hosting. I’ll tell you how I did it.
Less than one year ago, I was totally new to the porn industry. In fact, I was new to the whole concept of trying to make money online, but I was desperate to make some cash. I had heard about being able to make money building blogs using Adsense, but I was not particularly keen on using Blogger (I do today, incidentally, but for mainstream selling). I soon discovered that there are very few reliable free blog hosts who allow you to use their services to sell anything. That’s when, by pure chance, I found a link to Thumblogger.
Now, if you have read my other posts referring to Thumblogger, you will see that I had mixed feelings about how well I could market porn using this service. Time has changed this somewhat, as have my marketiong skills, and I can now say that Thumblogger does quite well for me (not the best, but good enough). What I can also say, without a shadow of a doubt, is that in using all the services Thumblogger provides to help you make money selling porn online, I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge on how the porn industry works; had access to many tips and tricks, including SEO help from the webmaster forum; I gained html and css skills; and with all this, by signing up to Thumblogger, I had access to all the other free tools provided to help me market porn, including free image hosting which is exclusive to Thumblogger users.
There are other free blog hosts who are, debatably, just as good (see my post on this). I can only tell you how I started out making money in the porn business, and this is how it all began:
I signed up for Thumblogger and had a look around the Adult Webmaster Group for help and inspiration. I knew that I had to get signed up with sponsors, but I didn’t have a clue how to go about this. I was also stuck with the dilemma that I would need to show a sponsor a url with a working website on it, but how was I going to provide that without being signed up to anyone first? I solved the problem myself by posting some of my old erotic stories on the blog I had set up and hoped that would be enough (it was - the url linked to my email address was proof enough that I wasn’t a spammer to the sponsors I signed up with). Then I introduced myself to the members of the Adult Webmaster Group and several of them were only too pleased to give me help and advice and sponsor links.
One member in particular, a gentleman called Garcia (one of whose many sites I have linked to here in appreciation of his efforts - it’s a porn blog of course), went out of his way to help me. He not only provided his list of sponsors, he also helped me set up my first blog, giving me tons of helpful information along the way. A cynic would say, that by getting someone to sign up under his affiliate links, this webmaster was onto a good thing and helping me to succeed was of benefit to him as well as to me. That’s true, but Garcia went beyond the call of duty in helping me and I will be forever grateful to him for that. There are others like Garcia in the adult webmaster industry and by signing up to Thumblogger I found quite a few of them. I do not believe I would have found this on any other free blog hosting service.
If you want to go the free hosting way when you begin to market porn, then I can highly recommend Thumblogger, for the above reasons. There are other good adult blog hosts linked to in this post, (I nowadays use all of them by the way, plus others I will tell you about later) and other adult webmasters have no doubt had good experiences with those also.
Most of all, unless you have a good deal of spare cash, I would highly recommend starting out using a free host - either an adult blog host or a free host for free sites and tgps, at least for a while you scale the heights of that learning curve.
This was a very long post and some of you may already be wanting to begin to make money online with paid hosting, so my next post will be on using paid hosting to make money when you market porn. It may be a little shorter than this one. Who knows ![]()
